Ramadan Acts of Kindness for Kids

Here are some easy ways for your children to spread love and kindness this Ramadan, one good deed at a time:

Donate to Charity

Encourage your children to donate some of their savings to a charitable cause. They can also donate gently used clothing or toys to a charity, or to anyone they think would appreciate them.

Help Prepare Iftaar

Kids can help prepare Iftaar by setting the table, washing the dishes, or even helping with cooking.

Offer to Babysit

Older kids can offer to babysit for a neighbour or family member, as parents who are fasting may appreciate having someone to watch their kids whilst they rest, particularly single parents.

Visit the Elderly

Ramadan is a time for community and compassion. Spend time with elderly neighbours or family members, and bonus points if you take them a simple Ramadan gift such as a handmade card or some flowers.

Say Kind Words

Encourage your children to say kind words to those around them, whether it’s a compliment or simply expressing gratitude. This can help spread positivity and kindness during Ramadan.

Practice Patience & Empathy

Fasting during Ramadan can be difficult, and it’s important to show kindness by being patient and understanding towards those who are fasting.

Share Food

Kids can share their Iftaar meal with a neighbour or invite someone for Iftaar who is lonely, collect food for a food bank, or volunteer to help distribute Iftaar meals to those in need.

Perform Acts of Service

Children can help with chores, volunteer at a local organisation, help keep the Mosque tidy, or donate their time to a charitable cause.

Make Du’aa

Kids can make Du’aa for their family, friends, and anyone who may be in need during Ramadan.

“The angels say Ameen to the D’uaa that you’re making for someone else in a way that they would say ‘O Allah grant this person the same’.” (Muslim)

Books encouraging kindness, generosity, empathy and giving to charity:

In The Golden Trail, we join Adam and Anisah in the month of Ramadan as they discover a treasure box containing gold coins and a note with instructions that they are duty bound to follow. When opened, a glittering light escapes from the box, taking Adam and Anisah on a journey to an unknown destination. A beautifully illustrated story that demonstrates the life changing power of Zakat and the importance of generosity, community spirit and compassion. A perfect Ramadan read!

Through activities such as preparing a gift box for homeless individuals, writing jokes on the pavement and visiting and interviewing an elderly neighbour, children and parents will broaden their understanding of the concept of charity and be able to see its impact on people’s lives. A wonderful gift that builds a lasting love for charity!
