To celebrate World Book Day 2020, our team took Adam and Anisah on a tour of some of the wonderful schools and Madrasahs in the UK.
In true Ilm2Amal style, we set out to bring the stories to life with fun and creative activities that would help children engage with our stories and reimagine prayer and fasting as exciting and life-altering adventures.
The engagement of the children was phenomenal. Our pantomime style theatrics had children screaming at pesky dragons and fighting them off with super powered shields, as well as trying out prayer on a special flying carpet.
We witnessed disenfranchised children come to life in ways that surprised even their teachers and witnessed confidence blooming in normally reserved students, who eagerly stood in front of the class to talk about their love for their favourite books.
It is those moments that make all the hard work and preparation that goes into developing our storybooks and events well worth it.
Research by the National Literacy Trust indicates that there is an indisputable link between literacy and life expectancy; with people with poor literacy being more likely to be unemployed, have low incomes and poor health.
With these statistics in mind, our aim is to work with children and adults in diverse communities, long after World Book Day has passed, to ensure that every child is being given the best start in life with access to books and stories that inspire a lifelong love of reading.
We plan to continue bringing stories to life, and would love your support along the way.
A special thank you goes out to Olive School Blackburn, Quwwatul Islam and Al-Ikhlaas Primary School for inviting us in to visit their brilliant children, who are sure to become passionate and avid readers with your encouragement and care.
